Yoshika Masuda is an Assistant Professor of Cello and Director of String Studies at Chapman University's Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music within the College of Performing Arts. A celebrated cellist, he has performed globally as a soloist and chamber musician, with accolades spanning Australia, Japan, and the U.S.
- Education: Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California (USC Thornton School of Music), distinction from Royal Northern College of Music (UK), and formative training at Sydney Conservatorium of Music (Australia).
As a chamber music specialist, Yoshika has collaborated with renowned artists such as Peter Frankl and Don Weilerstein, co-founded the Sakura Cello Quintet, and served as former cellist of the award-winning Rolston Quartet. His advocacy for contemporary music includes premiering works by composers like Eric Whitacre, Reena Esmail, and Jörg Widmann.
His creative and scholarly work emphasizes innovative concert programming, blending chamber music with new compositions to redefine classical music experiences. Recent projects include performances at Yale Schwarzman Center, residencies at the University of Houston Moores School of Music, and a world premiere recording of Eric Whitacre’s 'The Sacred Veil.'
