Prof. Yoshi Wada is a Chair Professor of Global Water and Food Security at Utrecht University's Department of Physical Geography (Faculty of Geosciences) and Director of the Biodiversity and Natural Resources (BNR) Program at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). He holds a PhD from Utrecht University (2013) with a focus on global water use and hydrological modelling. His research addresses human impacts on water systems, climate change effects, and sustainable solutions for water scarcity and resource management.
Research interests include global hydrological modelling, water-energy-food nexus, and pathways to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He leads projects like the Water Futures and Solutions (WFaS) initiative and contributes to international assessments such as the IPCC and UNEP GEO-6. His work appears in high-impact journals like Nature, Nature Geoscience, and PNAS.
Recipient of prestigious awards including the EGU Arne Richter Award (2018) and AGU Early Career Awards (2018), Dr. Wada has over 200 publications and is a highly cited researcher (top 1%). He serves on editorial boards of major journals and advises development banks on policy integration of scientific knowledge.
