Junguo Liu

Junguo Liu is a Chair Professor and Associate Dean at the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen, China. He also serves as Vice President at North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power and holds part-time roles at IIASA and USEREP.

Education:

• BS in Water Conservation, North China Institute of Water Conservation and Hydroelectric Power (1999)
• MSc in Water Education, IHE Delft Institute for Water Education (2002)
• PhD in Environmental Science, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich (2007)

His research spans ecological restoration, climate change mitigation, water-energy-food nexus, and virtual water trade. Recent work focuses on global river flow trends, peatland distribution modeling, and water scarcity assessments.

Scientific Awards:

• Outstanding Young Scientists Award by EGU (2009)

Liu has served as a lead author for the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, held leadership roles in ecological societies (SERB, USEREP), and contributed to UN advisory groups. His publications address water policy, carbon emissions, and nature-based solutions.
