Junguo Liu

Dr. Junguo Liu serves as Chair Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in Shenzhen, China. He maintains significant international affiliations as an Adjunct Senior Research Scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria and holds leadership roles in multiple international scientific organizations.

His educational foundation includes a Bachelor's degree from North China University of Water Resources and Hydropower (1995-1999), Master's degree from UNESCO-IHE in the Netherlands (2000-2002), and PhD from ETH Zurich, Switzerland (2003-2007). This multinational academic background has shaped his global perspective on environmental challenges.

Professor Liu's research spans hydrology and water resources management, global environmental change, and ecological restoration. His pioneering work has advanced water resources assessment in coupled human-natural systems, particularly in global hydrology research and water scarcity assessment by incorporating water resources quantity, quality, and environmental flow requirements. His research addresses critical environmental issues across multiple scales from watershed to global levels, integrating natural science with policy considerations to develop practical solutions for sustainable development.

His scholarly impact is substantial with approximately 150 publications including articles in Science, Nature, PNAS, and other high-impact journals, with over 5,000 citations. His research demonstrates consistent focus on developing innovative methodologies for water assessment, virtual water trade analysis, and ecological restoration strategies.
