Yoram Unguru

Yoram Unguru, MD, MS, MA is an Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University with joint appointments at the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics and the Herman and Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai. He specializes in pediatric hematology/oncology and bioethics, focusing on clinical ethics, resource allocation, and end-of-life decision-making. Dr. Unguru holds leadership roles in ethics committees, including Chair of the Children’s Oncology Group Bioethics Steering Committee and Chairman of Sinai Hospital’s Ethics Committee.

His research addresses ethical challenges in pediatric oncology, including chemotherapy shortages, shared decision-making, and ethics education. Dr. Unguru leads a transnational working group on cancer drug shortages and contributed to Maryland’s pandemic resource allocation guidelines.

He directs clinical ethics curricula for pediatric trainees and serves on editorial boards of medical journals. Recent work includes publications on culturally competent communication, gene therapy ethics, and crisis resource allocation frameworks.
