Michelle Huckaby Lewis, MD, JD is a Research Scholar at the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics. She holds concurrent expertise in medicine, law, and bioethics. Her work focuses on ethical and legal challenges in genomic research, particularly newborn screening, genomic data governance, and clinical/public health applications of genomic technology. She has been affiliated with Johns Hopkins since 2010.

Her research emphasizes four core areas: 1) Ethical use of residual newborn screening samples, 2) Communication of genomic information, 3) Data sharing frameworks, and 4) Genomic technology in infectious disease management. She currently serves on the Steering Committee of the Newborn Screening Translational Research Network (NBSTRN) and co-chairs its Bioethics and Legal Issues Work Group.
Previous roles include legislative work on healthcare reform during the Clinton administration and participation in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program and Greenwall Fellowship in Bioethics.
