Yoram Shiftan is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, where he serves as head of the Israeli Smart Transportation Research Center. He previously chaired the International Association of Travel Behavior Research (IATBR) and edited Transport Policy journal.

Professor Shiftan specializes in travel behavior modeling, transport policy formulation, and cost-benefit analysis of infrastructure projects. His recent research investigates autonomous vehicle impacts on urban mobility patterns and city planning, with leadership roles in EU COST Action WISE-ACT (Wider Impact of Autonomous Vehicles) and COST Action TEA (Transport Equity Analysis). He currently advises the Israeli government on the $40+ billion Tel-Aviv metro system evaluation.
With 4.5 years as visiting professor at institutions including ETH Zurich, University of Michigan, and Northwestern University, he has extensive cross-continental expertise in transportation decision-making processes for major investments in Israel and the United States.
He directs the Israeli Smart Transportation Research Center, driving innovation in transportation systems analysis and policy development through interdisciplinary collaboration.
