Dr Nikolas Thomopoulos is an Associate Professor in Transport at the University of Surrey, where he leads the Sustainable Transport & Mobility Programme of the Institute for Sustainability. He is affiliated with the Department of Tourism and Transport within the Faculty of Arts, Business and Social Sciences, and contributes to several research centers including the Centre for Sustainability and Wellbeing in the Visitor Economy and the Institute for Sustainability.

He examines both the technical aspects of new mobility solutions and their societal implications, ensuring a holistic approach to sustainable transport systems.
His publication record demonstrates consistent focus on sustainable transport solutions, with recent work analyzing electric vehicle adoption in China, active travel infrastructure, and the sustainability implications of automated and connected transport. His consultancy work has informed strategic planning for organizations like Network Rail.
Dr Thomopoulos leads the Sustainable Transport & Mobility Programme at the Institute for Sustainability, collaborating with international partners across 42 countries through WISE-ACT. His work with the Surrey Living Lab has directly influenced local active travel policies, and he serves as the Lead Academic Integrity Officer for SHTM and School Research Seminar Series Coordinator.
