Dr. Yolanda van Beek is an Associate Professor in Developmental Psychology at Utrecht University's Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. She holds dual roles as an Educational Consultant/Trainer in the Educational Development & Training department, advising on interdisciplinary teaching one day weekly. Her research focuses on the interplay between social development, nonverbal behavior (via ethological methods), and adolescent depression. She teaches developmental psychopathology across bachelor and master programs and supervises student theses.
Research interests include Human Ethology, Developmental Psychopathology, and Interdisciplinary Education, with thematic emphases on Dynamics of Youth and Higher Education Research. She received the Maarten van Son award senior teacher in 2012, recognizing her educational contributions. Her work bridges behavioral observation techniques with mental health outcomes in adolescents.
She actively develops innovative teaching methods emphasizing community-engaged and active learning strategies. Laboratory/Team affiliations include the Rommelse Social and Personality Development research group.
