Yoheved Kaplinsky is the Susan W. Rose Chair and Chair of the Piano Department at The Juilliard School, roles she has held since 1997 and 2000 respectively. She has been a faculty member since 1993 and serves as Artistic Director of Juilliard’s Pre-College Division since 2007. A renowned pianist and pedagogue, she specializes in piano performance, chamber music, and music education.
Education: B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from The Juilliard School, studying under Irwin Freundlich and Dorothy Taubman. Earlier training with Ilona Vincze at the Tel Aviv Music Academy.
Performance & Pedagogy: Extensive international performances in recitals, orchestras, and festivals (Bowdoin, Aspen, Pianofest, Cliburn-T.C.U. Institute). Active in master classes and lectures across the U.S., Israel, and Korea. Served as adjudicator for Van Cliburn, Cleveland, Arthur Rubinstein, Dublin, and Tchaikovsky competitions.
Awards: Recognized with the 2003 Presidential Scholars Teacher Recognition Award for excellence in mentoring top students.
Additional Roles: Former faculty at Philadelphia University of the Arts (1989–?), Manhattan School of Music, and Peabody Conservatory (1989–1997). Known for advancing piano technique and interpretive artistry through teaching and performance.
