Sean Schulze is a multifaceted pianist and pedagogue affiliated with multiple institutions. He serves as faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) since 2002, teaching undergraduate and graduate Piano Pedagogy, Piano Literature, and applied piano in CIM's Joint Music Program and Academy. Additionally, he holds the title of Visiting Assistant Professor at Oberlin Conservatory of Music (2015-present) and is Artist-Faculty at the Young Artist World Piano Festival (St. Paul, Minnesota, 2013-present). His teaching emphasizes classical piano tradition and has garnered national recognition for cultivating pre-college pianists.
Education: Earned a DMA from the University of Arizona under Nicholas Zumbro (student of Rosina Lhévinne). Further studies with Caio Pagano and masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Yoheved Kaplinsky and Nelita True.
Research interests focus on piano pedagogy, performance techniques, and fostering student success in competitions. His students frequently win national competitions (e.g., MTNA National Performance Competition, OMTA Graves Competition) and perform with orchestras including the Fort Worth Symphony and Cleveland Philharmonic.
Teaching philosophy emphasizes high expectations and the transcendent power of classical music. Extensive clinician/adjudicator work with music teacher associations and masterclass presentations nationwide.
