Dr. Yi Wang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Asian & Asian American Studies at Stony Brook University, with a PhD in Chinese Applied Linguistics from the University of Arizona. She specializes in sociolinguistic aspects of language use among transnational and multilingual students, particularly in China’s Belt and Road context. Her research explores language ideologies, third language acquisition, and digital sociolinguistics, including anti-Asian hate speech analysis using large-scale Twitter data. Prior to Stony Brook, she taught at Emory University, Middlebury College, and institutions in Australia and China. She serves as Asian Language Convener at AAUSC and has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes.

Research Interests
Her work examines identity formation in study abroad contexts, multilingualism, and the intersection of race/gender with language learning. Methodologically, she employs qualitative/quantitative methods and social network analysis.
