Dongmei Zeng is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Asian & Asian American Studies at Stony Brook University, where she also serves as Director of the China Studies Program. She holds a D.A. in Foreign Language Instruction from Stony Brook University, following M.A. degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language (Stony Brook) and English (Emporia State University), and a B.A. in English from Northwest University (China).
Her teaching focuses on Chinese language, Mandarin structure, second language acquisition, and methods for teaching Asian languages. She has authored textbooks including Contemporary Chinese for Heritage Learners and co-authored Breaking Boundaries: A Content-Based Academic Reading and Writing Text. Her research emphasizes Chinese heritage language learners, pedagogy, and teacher education.
Zeng previously served as Associate Professor of ESL at the City University of New York before joining Stony Brook full-time. Her work includes presentations on linguistic/cultural issues in heritage language education and publications in professional journals.
