Dr Yasmine Dunn is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Law (SSSHL), Teesside University. She is a HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist and contributes significantly to the doctorate in clinical psychology program as module lead for Psychological Theory and Practice in Year 1, and through teaching and doctoral supervision.
Her academic and clinical training includes an undergraduate degree and master’s from Northumbria University, with qualification as a Clinical Psychologist from Teesside University in 2020. Since then, she has developed expertise in complex trauma and therapeutic models including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy (currently in training), and Internal Family Systems Therapy.
Her research focuses on:
- Complex and collective trauma
- Mental health needs of refugee and asylum seeker communities
- Socio-cultural influences on psychological wellbeing
- Therapeutic endings with individuals with intellectual disabilities
Her recent publications in 2023 explore therapist experiences in ending therapy with people with intellectual disabilities, employing qualitative methodologies such as Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis and survey research. These works reflect her commitment to improving clinical practice through rigorous inquiry.
Dr Dunn supervises several doctoral students on impactful topics, including:
- Vicarious trauma in interpreters
- Integrating spirituality into trauma work with refugees
- Working with refugee and asylum seeker children
She is actively involved in research and teaching without indication of part-time status, retirement, or former staff designation.
