Alex Kyriakopoulos is a Senior Lecturer in Counselling Psychology and Programme Leader for the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at Teesside University, affiliated with the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Law (SSSHL). He is a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) since 2009.
His academic journey began and concluded at Teesside University, where he earned a BSc (Hons) in Psychology (2003), MSc in Counselling Psychology (2005), and Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (2009).

Alex's research is centered on advancing psychological practice through innovation and evidence-based approaches. His primary interests include applied cyberpsychology, e-parenting, trauma-informed care in educational settings, and evidence-based pedagogy in higher education. He explores how digital interventions can improve mental health and wellbeing, particularly through e-interventions and technology-mediated therapies. His work also investigates identity development in forensic populations and mental health support for vulnerable groups such as asylum seekers.
The recent articles highlight a strong trend toward qualitative and mixed-methods research in clinical and educational psychology. His publications focus on trauma-informed care implementation, gaming addiction recovery, emotional disclosure for healthcare workers, and identity development in young offenders. The research spans cyberpsychology, mental health interventions, and pedagogical innovation, emphasizing real-world application and feasibility.

Alex supervises doctoral-level research and contributes to program leadership and curriculum development. He is actively involved in research projects funded by NIHR and ESRC, focusing on severe mental illness, ecotherapy, and support for children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. His enterprise activities include consultancy on psychological service development, clinical governance, service evaluation, and securing external funding for mental health initiatives. He also develops Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training programs for internal and external organizations.
He is engaged in collaborative research with local and national stakeholders, particularly in projects related to trauma-informed practices and ecotherapy interventions for individuals with severe mental illness. His methodological expertise includes reflexive thematic analysis, interpretative phenomenological analysis, and rapid review synthesis.
