Dr. Yann Sarazin is a CNRS Research Director at the Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes (UMR 6226) since 2022, previously holding a CNRS Research Fellow position (2008–2022) and postdoctoral roles at the University of East Anglia (2004–2007). His work focuses on organometallic and coordination chemistry of main group metals, particularly calcium, strontium, barium, and tin(II)/lead(II), with applications in molecular catalysis for sustainable chemical processes.
His research explores:
- Low-coordinate alkaline earth complexes stabilized via non-covalent interactions (e.g., Ae···H–Si, Ae···F–C).
- Catalytic applications in ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of biosourced cyclic esters and hydroelementation for fine chemicals.
- Fundamental studies on lead(II) and tin(II) organometallics, including novel ligand designs and multinuclear NMR/Mössbauer spectroscopy.
The 15 most recent publications highlight trends in catalyst design, dehydrocoupling reactions, and biopolymer synthesis, with a focus on atom-efficient processes and structural characterization via DFT, NMR, and crystallography. Collaborations span France, Europe, and Romania, including partnerships with academic groups (e.g., Prof. Cristi Silvestru) and industrial entities like Total Petrochemicals and Triskem International.
Advancing the field, he has coordinated major national research networks (e.g., GDR CNRS M2P), served on editorial boards (Revue Roumaine de Chimie, Main Group Metal Chemistry), and organized international symposia. His group has trained over 16 PhD students and postdocs, many of whom now hold academic or R&D roles globally.
