Yan Kestens is a Professor at the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, University of Montreal, and holds a CIHR Applied Public Health Chair in Urban Interventions and Population Health. His research focuses on spatial epidemiology, urban health, and the impact of environmental factors on public health. He leads projects such as the COHESION study, examining social determinants of health during the pandemic, and the INTERACT team, studying urban interventions and equity.
Education: PhD in Urban Planning (Université Laval), Postdoctoral Fellowship in Spatial Epidemiology (University of Montreal).
Research Interests: Urban interventions, spatial analysis, mobility, environmental health equity, aging, mental health, and the role of built environments in health outcomes. His work integrates geomatics and GIS tools to study population health dynamics.
Grants & Projects:
- Leading the 'Sustainable Healthy Cities' project on urban interventions and gentrification.
- Principal investigator for the INTERACT team (Environment and Health Research).
- Recipient of CIHR and Fonds de recherche grants for studies on public transit, green spaces, and health equity.
