Mark Keezer

Mark Keezer is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Montreal, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine (Department of Neuroscience) and the School of Public Health (Department of Social and Preventive Medicine). He holds dual appointments at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and is part of the Crossroads of Innovation research group. His research focuses on epilepsy comorbidities, aging populations with epilepsy, and transition care for youth with epilepsy.

• Education: MD from McGill University, PhD in Translational Neuroscience from Leiden University, and a Master’s in Epidemiology from Université de Montréal.
• Affiliations: Fellow of the American Epilepsy Society, editorial board member of Epilepsia and Neurology: Clinical Practice.

His research integrates epidemiology, clinical practice, and public health, with a focus on improving outcomes for patients with epilepsy through studies on comorbidities, frailty, and vascular risks. Key projects include the TÉCUM study (transition care), CaTS (tuberous sclerosis complex cohort), and CLSA (Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging).

Recent articles emphasize epilepsy’s impact on cardiovascular health, stroke-related seizures, and the development of predictive models like the SeLECT score. His work has been supported by grants from the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQS) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
