Dr. Yael Lavi is a Ph.D. candidate and Adjunct Lecturer at Tel Aviv University, specializing in the School of Philosophy, Linguistics and Science Studies. Her research bridges analytic philosophy and political theory to explore end-of-life decisions, assisted dying, and euthanasia, with a focus on the interplay of autonomy, dignity, and religious/cultural narratives. She is affiliated with the Minerva Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the End of Life.
- Education: Ph.D. (2017–2025) and M.A. (2011–2016) in Philosophy, Executive MBA (2007–2008), and B.Arch. (1999–2004).
Her work critically examines the epistemological and ethical challenges in public discourse on voluntary euthanasia, particularly through the lens of Israel’s Dying Patient Law (2005). Publications include chapters on Jean Améry’s anti-logic of death and critiques of suicidology frameworks, alongside contributions to interdisciplinary dialogues on mental illness, bioethics, and cultural perspectives.
She has received the Research Excellence Prize for Master’s Degree (2015) from the Swiss-Israel Foundation for Philosophy and held Rotenstreich Scholarships (2019–2023) for her Ph.D. Her recent presentations address topics like assisted dying terminology and just war theory.
