Angelika Reichstein is an Associate Professor in Constitutional & Administrative Law at the University of East Anglia's School of Law. She joined UEA in 2016 after a research fellowship at the University of Nottingham. Her research focuses on human rights and bioethics, particularly the right to life, assisted dying regulation, and prisoner rights.
Education: PhD in Law (2015, University of Nottingham), LLM in Human Rights Law (University of Nottingham), MA in English and German Studies (University of Bremen).
Research interests include the intersection of law and bioethics, dignity in healthcare, and the rights of prisoners. She led the British Academy-funded project 'Dying in Prison: A European Approach to a Dignified End of Life of Prisoners' (2018–2022).
Her recent work explores end-of-life decisions in penal systems and the Balkans' transition from death penalties to life imprisonment. She has published extensively on assisted dying regulation and prisoner dignity, receiving the Emerald Literati Award in 2021.
Advising/Grants: Active in interdisciplinary research on end-of-life care, with grants supporting projects on prisoner rights and penal policies. Organized workshops like 'Ageing and Dying in Prison' (2021).
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with global scholars on human rights and bioethics, evidenced by her participation in UNESCO bioethics conferences and ASEM forums on older persons' rights.
