YU-SHAN WU is a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Institute of Political Science, Academia Sinica, and holds joint professorships at National Taiwan University (Political Science Department), National Central University (Lo Chia-Lun Chair), National Tsinghua University, National Chengchi University, and National Sun Yat-sen University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. A leading scholar in comparative transitions of socialist systems, constitutional engineering, and cross-Strait relations, his research spans democratic consolidation, international relations theory, and East European/Russian studies. He served as the inaugural Director of the Institute of Political Science at Academia Sinica (2002-2015) and held key roles in the National Science Council and Chinese Association of Political Science. His accolades include the APSA’s Harold D. Lasswell Award and multiple research/teaching awards from Taiwan’s leading institutions.
His work bridges political theory and empirical analysis, pioneering studies on semi-presidentialism and cross-Strait relations frameworks. Recent interdisciplinary efforts explore historical and international relations methodologies. Over 160 journal articles and 25 authored/edited books reflect his prolific output, emphasizing Taiwan-China dynamics, democratization processes, and constitutional design in transitional states.
