Dr. Xudong Li is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunology at Tufts University School of Medicine. His research laboratory investigates molecular mechanisms governing CD4 helper T cell identity, epigenetic regulation, and immune adaptation in disease contexts. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California (2008) and a B.S. from Peking University (2000).
Research Focus: Dr. Li's work centers on two primary themes: (1) The role of cis-regulatory DNA elements in controlling CD4 T cell identity and plasticity; and (2) Molecular adaptations of T cells within tissue microenvironments during inflammation and autoimmunity. His lab employs CRISPR-based epigenome editing, cellular models, and systems immunology approaches.
Awards & Grants: Recognized with the prestigious Nomis Fellowship (2012–2016), he has also secured funding including a 2022 Ellison Foundation grant for Reprogramming pro-inflammatory effector T cells into regulatory T cells to treat autoimmune diseases.
Teaching: He actively instructs graduate courses including:
- Advanced Cellular Immunology
- Intro to Immunology
- Inflammation & Chronic Infectious Diseases
- 1st Year Journal Club
