He co-directs the Pathology Graduate Program and leads the Molecular and Cellular Basis for Disease Training Program. His research focuses on neurodegenerative mechanisms in age-related diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, emphasizing mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress.
- B.S. and M.S. in Biochemistry from Wuhan University (1995, 1998)
- Ph.D. in Pathology from Case Western Reserve University (2002)
His lab investigates how oxidative stress and cell cycle abnormalities contribute to Alzheimer's disease, proposing a "Two Hit Hypothesis" for disease progression. Experimental systems include neuronal cells, mouse models, and human brain tissues.
