Douglas Brubaker, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, with affiliations in the Center for Global Health and Diseases and the Developmental Therapeutics Program of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. His lab employs computational and experimental systems biology approaches to study host-microbiome interactions and immune cell biology, focusing on female reproductive health conditions such as infertility, endometriosis, and microbiome roles in estrogen/progesterone signaling. Research areas include Systems Immunology (modeling immune responses), Microbiome Pharmacology (therapeutic potential of microbiome constituents), and Preclinical Translation Modeling (bridging experimental systems to human contexts).
Education: PhD in Systems Biology and Bioinformatics from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. The lab emphasizes predictive modeling of complex biological systems using multi-omics data integration and computational hypothesis generation. Recent work includes studies on vaginal microbiome impacts in fertility, inflammatory bowel disease mechanisms, and cross-species translation of Alzheimer’s and diabetes comorbidities. Collaborations span neurodegenerative disorders, musculoskeletal interactions, and sepsis research.
