Xiaoyu Xia (夏小雨) is an Assistant Professor of Chinese Literature at Princeton University, where she explores intersections between visual, material, textual, and intellectual cultures in modern China. Her research emphasizes the evolving expressive and interpretive capacities of literature within the media transformations of China’s long twentieth century.

Her work lies at the crossroads of modern Chinese literature, media studies, and book history. By analyzing typographic innovations from 1895–1937, Xia challenges conventional text-centered frameworks to reveal how material changes in printing technologies expanded literary modernity.
Xia’s scientific contributions include her fellowship at Princeton’s Society of Fellows (2023–2025) and participation in the Society of Fellows in Critical Bibliography at the Rare Book School since 2021.
