Lili Xia is an Assistant Professor at Barnard College, specializing in premodern Chinese literature and culture. She holds joint appointments in the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Cultures and Comparative Literature. Her research explores cultural memory, literati culture, and digital humanities, focusing on China's Middle Period (800–1400 CE).
- Education: B.A. and M.A. in Classical Chinese Literature from Fudan University, Ph.D. in East Asian Studies from Princeton University
Her interdisciplinary work integrates art history, material culture, and digital tools like social network analysis. She is currently completing a book titled North against South in Middle Period China, which examines Jin dynasty literati culture and challenges Southern Han Chinese orthodoxy.
Recent publications highlight her expertise in Sino-Jurchen interactions, spatial analysis of literary spaces, and Northern Song historiography. Her digital humanities collaborations include work with Princeton's PICSciE.
