Professor Xiaoyan Shen is affiliated with the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS), where she teaches interpretation and translation courses in the Chinese Translation and Interpretation Program. She joined MIIS in 2019, bringing over two decades of academic and professional experience from institutions such as Beijing International Studies University (Chair of the Interpretation Department) and Xi’an International Studies University.

Her research and teaching focus on translation and interpretation as a blend of linguistic craftsmanship and artistic decision-making. Xiaoyan Shen received the MIIS Faculty Excellence Award (2021–2022) for her pedagogical approach. Her career spans extensive conference interpreting work for governments, NGOs, and multinational corporations, alongside lecturing in T&I training programs globally.
