Xiaoxing Xi is the Laura H. Carnell Professor of Physics at Temple University, specializing in experimental condensed matter physics with a focus on oxide, boride, and transition metal dichalcogenide thin films. His research emphasizes epitaxial thin film growth via techniques like Laser Molecular Beam Epitaxy (L-MBE) and Hybrid Physical-Chemical Vapor Deposition (HPCVD). He leads studies on magnesium diboride (MgB₂) thin films for superconducting RF cavities, iron pnictide superconductors, and 2D materials like MoS₂.
Dr. Xi holds a Ph.D. and B.Sc. in Physics from Peking University. He has authored over 350 publications and three patents in superconducting thin films. Notable awards include the 2020 Andrei Sakharov Prize from the American Physical Society for advocating open science and opposing racial profiling, and AAAS and APS fellowships.
His research spans nanoscale material properties, including strain effects in MoS₂, metal-insulator transitions in LaNiO₃ films, and interface engineering in oxide heterostructures. He actively promotes ethical scientific collaboration and policy advocacy.
