Xiaoni Zhang

Dr. Xiaoni Zhang is a Professor of Management, Information Systems, and Quantitative Methods at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Collat School of Business. She also holds dual roles as Senior Scientist at UAB’s School of Medicine, contributing to the Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education (COERE) and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS). Her career spans over 20 years, including prior tenure at Northern Kentucky University (NKU).

She earned her Ph.D. in Business Computer Information Systems from the University of North Texas (2001). Her research focuses on healthcare analytics, clinical decision support systems, substance use disorder interventions, mobile health applications, and technology adoption in healthcare. Notable projects include Medicaid expenditure analysis, COPD patient care, and privacy/security frameworks.

Her work has been published in high-impact journals like International Journal of Medical Informatics, Communications of the ACM, and IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management. Awards include Taylor & Francis’ Top Citations Recognition (2016), NKU’s Sustained Excellence Award (2010), and UAB’s Teaching Excellence Award (2023).

Recent publications highlight innovative applications of AI in healthcare and education, including peer support systems for SUD treatment and AI chatbot use cases. She actively reviews grants for organizations like the Netherlands Organization for Health Research and Development and serves in academic promotion/tenure evaluations.
