He also serves as an Associate Scientist at UAB’s School of Medicine’s Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education (COERE). His work examines how policy interventions—such as Medicaid expansions, tax credits, and pandemic response measures—affect access to care, health outcomes, and disparities. Recent studies analyze the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, and minimum wage policies on healthcare utilization, mental health, and child development. Lyu’s research frequently highlights vulnerable populations, including low-income adults, children, and Medicaid beneficiaries.
Publications span topics like pandemic mask mandates, dental care access, postpartum Medicaid coverage continuity, and the long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on children’s health and education. His interdisciplinary approach integrates healthcare economics, epidemiology, and policy analysis to address systemic challenges in public health systems.
