Dr. Matt Hampton is an Associate Professor of Economics at Austin Peay State University's College of Business. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Northern Iowa. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Alabama (2018) and a B.S. in Economics from Middle Tennessee State University (2011). His research focuses on Health Economics, Labor Economics, Public Economics, and Applied Microeconomics, with a particular emphasis on the Affordable Care Act’s impacts, minimum wage policies, and retirement behavior. In 2022, he received the APSU College of Business A.J. Taylor Distinguished Professorship Award for Excellence in Research.
His work examines topics such as labor mobility under healthcare reforms, the effects of Medicaid expansions on migration and marriage, and the interplay between minimum wages and retirement decisions. His research often bridges microeconomic theory with public policy analysis, addressing real-world issues in healthcare access, labor markets, and social security systems.
