Xiaolei Shi

Dr Xiaolei Shi is an ARC DECRA Senior Research Fellow/Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Science at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), School of Chemistry & Physics. His research focuses on thermoelectrics, surface/interface science, and advanced micro/nanostructure characterization techniques. He has published over 240 papers, including 135 as first/corresponding author in high-impact journals like Science, Nature Sustainability, and Advanced Materials. His work has garnered over 15,900 Google citations and 68 h-index, with 26 ESI Highly Cited Papers.

Shi holds a PhD in Materials Engineering from The University of Queensland (2015–2019), an MPhil in Materials Physics and Chemistry (University of Science and Technology Beijing), and a Bachelor’s in Materials Science and Engineering. He has secured over AUD 14.2 million in research funding, including ARC DECRA Fellowships, Discovery/Linkage Projects, and industry collaborations. His awards include recognition as a Top 2% Scientist (Elsevier, 2021–2024) and the 2024 Early Career Researcher of the Year Award.

His research interests span flexible/wearable thermoelectric materials, energy harvesting, and advanced characterization techniques. Recent projects include developing thermoelectric textiles, high-performance Ag₂Se thin films, and ductile SnSe-based materials. He collaborates internationally and serves as a reviewer for major journals and ARC grant assessor.

Shi supervises PhD/Master’s students and leads research teams in thermoelectric device optimization. His lab focuses on bridging material science and practical applications, with innovations in flexible electronics and sustainable energy systems.
