Xiaolei Shi

Dr. Xiaolei Shi is a Senior Lecturer (Level C) and ARC DECRA Senior Research Fellow at the School of Chemistry & Physics, Queensland University of Technology (QUT). His primary research focuses on thermoelectrics, surface/interface science, and advanced micro/nanostructure characterization techniques. He holds a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from The University of Queensland (2015–2019) and has accumulated extensive experience in thermoelectric materials and device development.

Shi has authored over 247 publications, including 1 book chapter and numerous high-impact papers in journals like Science, Nature Sustainability, and Advanced Materials. His work emphasizes flexible, wearable thermoelectric systems and has resulted in 26 ESI Highly Cited Papers and 3 ESI Hot Papers. He leads and collaborates on major grants, including AUD 14.2 million in ARC funding, and has secured patents in thermoelectric technologies.

His research interests span thermoelectric materials design, energy harvesting, and sustainable technologies. Recent projects include advancing flexible Ag2Se-based thin films and weavable thermoelectric textiles. Shi is a dedicated educator, teaching courses in materials science and physics at QUT. He has mentored 13 PhD students and 10 Master’s students, fostering the next generation of researchers in energy materials and nanotechnology.

Shi’s awards include being a Top 2% scientist (Elsevier, 2021–2024) and the 2024 Executive Dean’s Early/Mid-Career Researcher of the Year. He is a sought-after reviewer for top journals and contributes to ARC project assessments.
