Dr Xiaofei Qi is an Associate Professor at the School of Education, Durham University, and a Fellow of the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing. Her research focuses on early childhood education, digital learning, and assessment methodologies, with a particular emphasis on longitudinal and experimental studies. She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in education, early years development, and assessment strategies.
Previously, she worked at the University of Cambridge's Education Reform and Innovation team and led the development of a computerised adaptive entrance test for Eton College at the Cambridge Psychometrics Centre. She holds a PhD in Psychology from Birkbeck, University of London, exploring the impact of preschool experiences on children's development.
Her current projects include evaluations of educational interventions such as the Early Years Conversation Project and Talk with Tales for Children, funded by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF). Recent work includes co-authoring reports on Maths Champions, a programme enhancing early numeracy skills in nurseries, and contributing to policy-oriented studies like 'A country that works for all children and young people.'
Dr Qi supervises doctoral students in areas like play-based learning, digital parenting, and educational assessment. She has been recognized as an Editor of the Review of Education (BERA) in 2020 and actively engages in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of education, technology, and policy.
