Dr. Xiao Ma is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Australian Research Council) affiliated with the Melbourne School of Design and the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne. She leads the ARC Discovery Project on Emerging Transport Technologies and Urban Governance. Her research focuses on transport planning, smart mobility, political economy, and urban development, with a specialization in housing markets and transnational capital flows.
Dr. Ma holds a PhD from the University of Sydney (2021), where her doctoral work examined foreign property development in Sydney. Prior to her current role, she lectured at the University of Sydney and Macquarie University. She is a member of the Informal Urbanism Research Hub (InFur-), contributing to Future Cities research.
Her work bridges urban policy analysis, global capital dynamics, and spatial justice, addressing issues such as housing booms/busts, transnational corporations in transport, and decolonial urban theory. Awards include the ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship. Current projects emphasize sustainable urban governance and emerging mobility technologies.
