Wolfgang Wende

Wolfgang Wende is a Full Professor at TU Dresden University of Technology in the Faculty of Architecture, where he holds the Professorship in Urban Development. He has been Head of Research Area at the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development since 2010 and has held visiting professorships at University College Dublin (2009–2021) and the National University of Singapore (2008–2009). He is actively engaged in research and policy development in landscape and urban planning.

His research interests include:

Wende’s recent publications (2023–2025) reflect a strong focus on urban-rural interfaces, ecosystem services, green infrastructure, climate adaptation, and spatial planning. His work integrates GIS-based assessments, remote sensing, and policy-oriented research, often with international case studies in China and Europe.

He has received several scientific awards, including:

• Teaching Award TU Dresden 'ecological sustainability' (2020)
• Best Papers Award 2020, International Journal of Coal Science and Technology
• Doctorate Fellowship of the State of Berlin for Young Scientists (1997)

Wende has been involved in numerous research projects and policy initiatives, including strategic environmental assessment, biodiversity offsets, and post-mining landscape reclamation. He has advised on environmental planning in Russia and Germany and contributed to EU-level biodiversity policy discussions. He is a member of several professional associations, including the German Association for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA), and the Saxon Academy of Sciences.

He has supervised and collaborated with numerous researchers and contributed to major edited volumes and policy reports. His work bridges academic research, policy development, and practical implementation in urban and regional planning.
