Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Developmentمعرفی
S. Rößler serves as Project Manager at the Interdisciplinary Center for Transformative Urban Development (IZS), a joint institution of the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Spatial Development (IÖR) and Technical University of Dresden, since July 2016. She is also a Research Associate at IÖR since 2008 and holds a teaching assignment at TU Dresden in the Master's program of Spatial Development and Natural Resource Management.
Her academic background includes:
- Diploma in Landscape Architecture from TU Dresden (1996-2003) with thesis "Criteria for urban redevelopment from the perspective of open space planning - an investigation based on example projects"
- Doctorate from TU Dresden's Faculty of Architecture (2009) on "Open spaces in shrinking cities: opportunities and limits of open space planning in urban redevelopment" (funded by German Federal Environmental Foundation)
Dr. Rößler's research centers on sustainable urban transformation through integrated approaches to open space planning, climate adaptation, and redevelopment of shrinking cities. Her work examines how urban planning instruments can address demographic decline while advancing climate resilience and biodiversity conservation in post-industrial urban landscapes, particularly within large housing estates.
Her project portfolio demonstrates sustained engagement with German urban development funding programs, focusing on resource conservation, brownfield revitalization, and socially integrative climate adaptation strategies across European and Chinese contexts. Current initiatives include TRUST (climate-neutral cities by 2030) and QuIK Dialoge (cross-learning between migration and climate crisis responses).
As part of IÖR's research teams in Dresden and Görlitz, she contributes to interdisciplinary efforts developing practical tools for municipal practitioners through projects like MORO (simulation game for adapting peripheral settlements) and REGKLAM (Dresden's climate adaptation model region).
