William Snyder

William Snyder is a Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology's School of Photographic Arts and Sciences within the College of Art and Design. He serves as Undergraduate Program Director for Advertising Photography and teaches courses including Sports Photography, Photographic Arts I & II, and Photojournalism Capstone.

Snyder is a four-time Pulitzer Prize winner, having won in 1989, 1991, 1993, and 2006 (as Director of Photography for The Dallas Morning News' Hurricane Katrina coverage). After graduating from RIT with Highest Honors in 1981, he worked at The Miami News and then The Dallas Morning News for 23 years before joining RIT in 2008.

His research and professional interests span photojournalism, digital photography, advertising photography, sports photography, and rock & roll documentation (notably as The Who's official photographer). He has produced significant work covering the Trans-Siberian Railroad, the Soviet coup attempt, Haitian elections, and Uganda's AIDS crisis.

Snyder has received numerous accolades including RIT Outstanding Alumni, the Isaiah Thomas Award in Publishing, and the Frank J. Romano Endowed Prize for Publishing Entrepreneurship. He serves on the Alumni Association Board of Directors and is an advisor to The Reporter magazine.

His recent publication 'Join Together (With The Band)' co-authored with Eddie Vedder documents his extensive work with musical artists. His teaching emphasizes both technical proficiency and visual storytelling, preparing students for careers in professional photography.
