William O'Brien is a Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Finance at San José State University (SJSU), part of the College of Business. He holds a B.S. in Economics from Santa Clara University (1970) and an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University (1979). Licensed as a CPA in California, he is affiliated with professional organizations like the American Institute of CPAs and the California Society of CPAs.
Before joining SJSU in 1992, he spent over two decades in public accounting, corporate roles, and entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley. His research interests focus on financial management, strategic planning, intangible assets, and managerial accounting. He actively contributes to the university as co-chair of the Silicon Valley Financial Management Institute and has served on private organization boards in Santa Clara County.
Teaching courses include Financial Accounting (BA020) and Forensic Accounting (BA124), emphasizing ethical dimensions and practical applications. He received the 1994 Instructor Excellence Award and is recognized for consulting and lecturing in corporate planning and financial analysis.
