William Murray is an Associate Professor at the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management at the University of Guelph. He holds a PhD from Saint Mary’s University (2014), an MBA from the University of Guelph (2000), and a BA in English Literature from Carleton University (1999), alongside certifications in teaching and hospitality analytics. His research focuses on employee motivation, service quality, sense making, and technology’s role in hospitality, with a particular emphasis on workforce sustainability and organizational commitment.
Dr. Murray has over two decades of experience in post-secondary education, teaching a wide range of business management courses and redesigning curricula. He has held leadership roles in Senate and various committees at the University of Guelph. His research explores employee motivations, customer satisfaction, and disruptions in postsecondary education. He also hosts The Service Center podcast, featuring industry leaders and experts.
His work spans refereed journals and book chapters, including studies on lodging sector job rewards and employee empowerment. He has received awards for best conference presentations (2007, 2010) and has contributed to media discussions on hospitality trends, including coverage in CTV Your Morning and Hotel Association of Canada publications.
