William Drury is the Associate Conductor of Wind Ensembles and directs the NEC Symphonic Winds at New England Conservatory (NEC). He also serves as conductor of the 567th ANG Band of Cape Cod and plays saxophone with the Jimmy Capone Big Band. Drury holds a BS from Gonzaga University and an MM from NEC, with conducting studies under Frank Battisti and Richard Hoenich.
His professional roles include former faculty positions at Boston University, The Boston Conservatory, and MIT. He has conducted orchestras at Harvard, Brown, and Brandeis Universities, and held roles such as MIT’s Assistant Conductor of Orchestras and conductor of the Boston Conservatory’s Wind Ensemble. As a jazz saxophonist, he has performed with notable artists like Natalie Cole and the Coasters.
Drury has premiered works by composers such as Bell, Pinkham, Fletcher, Popkin, and Zorn, and serves as chairman of the Massachusetts Chapter of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA). His recordings appear on labels including Art of the States and Tzadik.
