William Chan is a Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences within the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy at the University of the Pacific, where he has worked since 1996. His research focuses on the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) and its role in environmental toxicology, drug metabolism, and cancer therapy. He utilizes biochemical and molecular biology approaches to study receptor signaling, protein stability, and therapeutic agent design.
- Education: PharmD and PhD from University of California, San Francisco (1986, 1991)
- Postdoctoral Training: Environmental Toxicology (UC Davis, 1992), Molecular Pharmacology (Northwestern University Medical School, 1993-1996)
Research Trends: His recent work explores AHR regulation via autophagy, cross-talk between AHR and hypoxia/estrogen signaling pathways, and therapeutic strategies for cancer and pollutant-related diseases. His publications span International Journal of Molecular Sciences, Biochemical Pharmacology, and Toxicological Sciences.
Advising: Dr. Chan has mentored over 30 PhD, PharmD, and MS students, including Rui Xiong (2023), Yujie Yang (2021), and Jinghang Xie (2014). His lab also trains high school and undergraduate researchers in molecular pharmacology.
Grants: Continuously funded by NIH (R15 and R01 grants) since 1999 for AHR-related studies. Collaborations with researchers like Mamoun Alhamadsheh and Park M.S. highlight his interdisciplinary impact.
