Willi Semmler

Willi Semmler is a Professor at The New School, affiliated with the Schools of Public Engagement. He holds a Ph.D. (1976) and Habilitation (1980) from the Free University of Berlin. His research focuses on Empirical Macroeconomics, Financial Markets, and the Economics of Climate Change. He teaches graduate courses including Advanced Macroeconomics and Economics of Climate Change.

He is a Research Associate at SCEPA (New York), IIASA (Austria), and the Center for European Economic Research (Germany). His recent publications include books on sustainable macroeconomics and climate policy. Notable awards include a Doctor honoris causa (2020) and top 3% ranking in RePEc.

His advisory roles include the IMF Independent Evaluation Committee on Unconventional Monetary Policy (2019) and evaluations for the European Central Bank and EU Commission. He has held visiting positions at institutions like the IMF and the European Central Bank.
