Will Tullett is Senior Lecturer in Early Modern History at University of York, specializing in sensory, embodied, and environmental history. Research focuses on smell heritage, gender materialization, and pollution histories from 1600s-present.
Research reconstructs historical sensory experiences using interdisciplinary approaches. Current projects include post-1945 smell culture in Britain, animal-human olfactory communication, and sensory education history. Authored books examine smell in 18th-century England and methodological frameworks for olfactory heritage.
Publications establish sensory history methodologies, with recent work featured in BBC documentaries and museum collaborations. Leads major smell heritage projects including EU Horizon's Odeuropa and RSE-funded Smell of Scotland.
