Will Ouimet is an Associate Professor at the University of Connecticut, specializing in geomorphology and tectonic processes. His research focuses on landscape evolution in active tectonic settings and the Anthropocene impacts of human-environment interactions. He employs fieldwork, GIS, LiDAR, and cosmogenic isotopes in projects across Taiwan, the Colorado Front Range, and New England. He co-leads the UCore Sediment Coring Facility.
Education: Ph.D. in Geology and Geochemistry from MIT, B.S. in Geology and Mathematics from Williams College.
Research Interests: Tectonic geomorphology, human-induced landscape changes, fluvial systems, and the application of geospatial technologies. He investigates historical land use legacies (e.g., charcoal production, stone walls) and their effects on soils and ecosystems using LiDAR and deep learning. Recent work includes sedimentation dynamics in coastal Connecticut and post-glacial fire/climate histories.
Collaborations: Cross-disciplinary studies with colleagues using cosmogenic nuclides, thermochronology, and geochemical analyses. Active in Taiwan's orogenic belt and New England's anthropogenic landscapes.
