معرفی
Roles: Professor of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences; Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs in the College of Science at Purdue University. Specializes in tectonic geomorphology and cosmogenic nuclide dating techniques for studying landscape evolution.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from University of California, Berkeley
Research Interests: Focuses on quantitative methods to understand how landscapes evolve through time. Key areas include cosmogenic nuclide applications for dating fluvial and glacial deposits, tectonic controls on erosion patterns, and environmental geoscience problems like cave system development. Recent work explores Quaternary incision rates of major rivers and hominin site chronology in China and Africa.
Awards:
- NSF CAREER Award (2001)
- EAS Outstanding Teacher Award (2000)
- NASA Global Change Fellowship (1992-1995)
Grants & Advising: Leads major NSF-funded projects on climate-tectonic interactions in mountain belts. Advises Ph.D. students on cosmogenic dating methods and geomorphic analysis. Active in developing burial dating techniques for archaeological sites.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with PRIME Lab (Purdue Rare Isotope Measurement Laboratory) for accelerator mass spectrometry work. Part of international teams studying Tibetan Plateau tectonics and South African hominin sites.
