Werner H. Hoffmann

Werner H. Hoffmann is a full professor of Strategic Management and Management Control at WU Vienna, serving as Academic Director of the Strategy, Innovation, and Management Control (SIMC) master's program since 2010. He founded the Institute for Strategic Management (ISM) in 2011 and has led it since then. His research focuses on strategic alliances, business model innovation, and evolutionary theory of the firm. He holds a habilitation (2001) and doctoral degree from WU Vienna, alongside a Magister in business administration.

Prof. Hoffmann brings extensive practical experience as Managing Partner of Contrast EY Management Consulting (since 2016) and former CEO of Contrast Management Consulting (1991–2015). He also serves as President of the Supervisory Board of the Austrian Controller Institute (since 2012). His awards include two WU Awards (2019) for groundbreaking research on competition-cooperation dynamics and CEO values in strategy-making.

His work bridges academic research and industry application, emphasizing strategic governance, board effectiveness, and control systems. Key publications explore alliance portfolio management, trust in cooperative decisions, and resource-based strategies.
