Wendy Parkes is an Assistant Professor at Lakehead University's Bora Laskin Faculty of Law since August 2018, teaching Legal Research and Writing, Professional Responsibility, Tort Law, and Environmental Law with a focus on Indigenous legal education and student mentorship.
She holds degrees in Law and Geography from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Common Law and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002.
Her research centers on Curriculum Development, Identity Theft, Data Breaches, and Privacy Law, with significant contributions to Indigenous legal scholarship through programs at the University of Saskatchewan's Native Law Centre and Nunavut Law Program.
Publications demonstrate specialization in Aboriginal law documentation and legal research methodologies, particularly through contributions to the Canadian Native Law Reporter.
Professor Parkes actively mentors Indigenous students and tutored Inuit youth at Nunavut Sivuniksavut, while previously leading a CIPPIC-funded research study on identity theft frameworks.
She chairs the Faculty of Law Natural Resources and Environmental Law Committee, serves on the Appointments Committee, represents the faculty at the Canadian Association of Law Teachers, and participates in the Thunder Bay figure skating community as a Skate Canada Senior Competitive Judge.
