Dr. Wendy Lee is a Lecturer in Early Childhood Education at the University of Sydney, affiliated with the School of Education and Social Work within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She also serves as a Student Life and FASS Academic Advisor for Early Childhood programs. Her research focuses on emotional and social development in early childhood, particularly adult-child relationships, emotional sensibility in educators, and attachment studies.
Lee holds a PhD (Early Childhood) from the University of Sydney, alongside an MA (Early Childhood) from Macquarie University, a BA (Early Childhood) from Western Sydney University, and a Diploma in Early Childhood from South Western Sydney Institute. She has over twelve years of experience as an Early Childhood Educator and Teacher in Australia, Germany, and South Korea.
Her current research projects include investigating educators' emotional availability and its impact on child relationships, as well as collaborating with the Minderoo Foundation on the ‘Thrive by Five’ initiative, developing global caregiving apps. She is a member of the Centre for Research on Learning and Innovation (CRLI), the Association for Psychological Science (APS), and Early Childhood Australia (ECA).
Lee has received numerous awards, including multiple USS Commendations for Excellence in Teaching (2017–2021) and the Emerging Scholar Award (2018). Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including units on child development, educational psychology, and early childhood pedagogy. She actively supervises honours, master’s, and PhD students in early childhood education and related fields.
