Wendong Tao is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Resources Engineering at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF). His research focuses on ecological engineering, sustainable wastewater treatment, and resource recovery from bioresidues with an emphasis on anammox-based nitrogen removal, anaerobic digestion optimization, and biochar applications. He leads the Ecological Engineering Laboratory (https://watertao.wixsite.com/wastewater) and currently advises two PhD students in environmental engineering fields.
Key research interests include innovative wastewater treatment technologies, nutrient recovery systems, and scaling-up environmental solutions. Recent work emphasizes vacuum stripping for ammonia recovery, struvite crystallization for phosphorus capture, and advanced biochar composites for contaminant remediation. He is open to recruiting a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in thermodynamic modeling and electrochemical reactor design.
Publications span over two decades, covering topics from constructed wetland performance to microbial community dynamics in full-scale treatment systems. His work integrates experimental design with computational modeling to address real-world environmental challenges in arid and semi-arid regions.
